Can someone meet you at Dubai airport arrivals?

Most airports let a car idle outside Arrivals for the two minutes it takes to load a suitcase. DXB does not, and the airport says so directly rather than leaving it to signage and enforcement. That single sentence changes how you should tell someone to collect you.

What the airport publishes

At DXB, there is no pick-up area at Arrivals. Dubai Airports’ own answer to the question is to use the car park instead, and it repeats the point in two separate places on the same page — once for guests arriving and once for guests asking where to wait.

Going the other way, the rule is the opposite of what people assume. There are designated drop-off areas on the Departures level, near the terminal entrances, with a time limit. So the kerb you are picturing exists, but it is on the departures side of the building and you can only use it to let someone out.

Drop-off and pick-up are not symmetrical

This asymmetry is the whole answer. A friend who has dropped you off before will assume collecting you works the same way, drive to Arrivals expecting a bay, and find there is nowhere to stop.

Taxis are the exception, and that is why the rule is confusing

Taxis have a designated taxi pick-up area, signposted from Arrivals. So when you walk out of Arrivals you will see a well-organised queue of cars collecting passengers, which makes the airport look as though it has a pick-up area after all.

It has one for taxis. It does not have one for private cars. Reading the taxi rank as proof that your cousin can pull up outside is the specific mistake this page exists to prevent.

If someone is going to park and meet you

Parking is free only at DWC; at DXB it is charged by terminal and parking zone. That is worth stating precisely, because DWC is Dubai’s second airport — Al Maktoum International — and advice written about it does not transfer to DXB.

Payment is handled by scanning the QR code on the parking ticket, an automatic pay station, or Salik. Salik is the UAE’s road-toll account, so a resident driver may find the fee simply comes off that balance rather than being paid at a machine.

For a long delay or an early-morning arrival, parking for more than one day is allowed, and long-term parking exists. Drivers holding a Persons with Disabilities card get 2 hours free at DXB, and at DWC parking is free for everyone.

Telling your driver what to do

Three things settle it before anyone leaves the house.

1. Agree a meeting point inside, not a door outside. The car is going to the car park either way, so the useful detail is which terminal you land at — not which entrance they drive to.
2. Tell them the fee is not avoidable at DXB. A driver who circles the terminal hoping to time your exit and skip parking is solving a problem that has no kerbside solution here.
3. Decide who is waiting for whom. Passport control and baggage reclaim are the variable part of an arrival; parking is the fixed part. It is cheaper for the driver to park and wait inside than to re-enter the car park after a lap of the airport.

What this means in practice

If you are landing and someone is collecting you, agree in advance on where in Arrivals you will meet, not on which door the car will be at. The driver is coming inside either way. The trolley itself is free; what a porter costs is a separate question.

If you are the one being dropped off for a departure, the drop-off bay is the right plan, and the timing that matters is the terminal’s: approximately three hours before the scheduled departure time. Arriving before that means standing with your bags rather than checking them.

What this page does not tell you

It does not give a parking rate. Dubai Airports says the cost varies by terminal, duration and parking zone, and does not publish a figure in a page that can be read and quoted — so any exact price you find elsewhere was not taken from the airport’s own answer.
