How many phones can you take into Dubai, and what else does DXB limit?

Most “what not to pack” pages are the same generic airport list. Dubai Airports publishes one number that is not generic, and it is the reason this page exists: the limit on how many mobile phones you may carry.

The phone limit

That is a quantity rule, not a security rule, and it exists because phones carried in bulk look like goods rather than personal effects. It catches three kinds of traveller: people bringing devices as gifts for family, people carrying a replacement handset plus their own, and people moving stock without thinking of it as stock.

If you are travelling with more than that, you are no longer a passenger with belongings — you are importing, and that is a customs matter rather than an airport one.

Liquids in hand luggage

This matches what most airports apply, so it is worth knowing mainly because it is stated rather than assumed. The container size is what counts, not how full it is — a half-empty 200 ml bottle fails.

Medication

Dubai Airports states you need a prescription for any medication you carry, and a doctor's certificate if you have a metal medical device in your body.

The airport does not publish which medicines are restricted or banned in the UAE, and we do not reproduce a list either — several common prescriptions elsewhere are controlled here, and a list that goes stale is worse than no list because it reads as authoritative while being wrong.

If you take prescription medication, the question to settle before you fly is not “is it allowed” as answered by a travel page. It is what the UAE health authority says about your specific substance, in writing, before departure.

Not permitted in hand luggage

lighters, flammable containers, and toy weapons of all kinds.

Dubai Airports names those and does not publish an exhaustive list, so treat it as examples rather than as the boundary. Lighters are the one that surprises people, because many airports allow one on your person.

What this page does not tell you

Duty-free allowances. Dubai Airports points to Dubai Customs for cigarette, tobacco and alcohol limits rather than publishing them, and we could not reach a Dubai Customs page that states the figures. So we do not state them. Any number you find elsewhere may be current or may be years old — there is no way to tell from the page it sits on. Whether your specific item is allowed. This page reports what the airport publishes. It does not decide your case, and customs officers are not bound by a web page.
